Thompson Hollywood brings a touch of European flair to LA's dining scene with three distinct venues. The Lobby Bar offers a chic spot for creative cocktails, while The Terrace provides a sun-drenched setting for breakfast, lunch, and afternoon bites with rooftop views. Bar Lis, the rooftop lounge, captures the playful sophistication of the Côte d’Azur, offering outdoor dining and drinks with stunning views of the Hollywood sign and the city. Additionally, Mes Amis, a private event space inspired by Parisian brasseries, combines Hollywood glamour for events up to 250 guests.

During our stay we dined at Bar Lis on the rooftop. Our experience at Bar Lis was very fun and playful. The ambiance, views, drinks and food were amazing. We’d highly recommend the chips and dip with caviar.

Bar Lis, the rooftop lounge at Thompson Hollywood, epitomizes the Côte d’Azur's iconic spirit and sophistication. Enjoy California’s perfect weather while savoring inventive cocktails and French Riviera-inspired canapés, all while taking in breathtaking views of the Hollywood Sign and the cityscape from one of LA's premier outdoor dining spots.

The other best part of Thompson Hollywood’s rooftop is The Terrace. This is their rooftop restaurant by the pool.

The Terrace provides stunning views of the Hollywood Hills and downtown Los Angeles, offering a casual menu with coastal California-inspired light bites and shareable dishes. Enjoy an extensive rosé selection and freshly crafted cocktails in a lush, intimate setting, ideal for breakfast, solo lunches, or sunset gatherings.

We had breakfast at The Terrace. This was the perfect place to start the day with a cup of coffee and some breakfast classics.

At The Terrace, breakfast is a delightful experience featuring their signature breakfast burrito. This hearty dish is packed with fresh, flavorful ingredients, making it a perfect start to the day. Enjoy it while taking in the beautiful views of the Hollywood Hills and downtown Los Angeles, all within the relaxed and inviting ambiance of The Terrace.

Their ground-floor restaurant, Mes Amis was permanently closed during our stay.

The Garden View One Bedroom Residence with Plunge Pool at The Cape offers a luxurious retreat featuring bespoke midcentury Latin American furnishings. This king-bed villa includes a full kitchen, a separate living area, and a private bathroom with a rainfall shower and a freestanding copper-leafed tub. Step out onto the private patio to enjoy outdoor seating and a plunge pool, with a partial view of the ocean, all while wrapped in the comfort of luxurious cotton kimono robes.

During our stay at The Cape, we were able to enjoy what living at a luxury resort in Mexico feels like as we stayed in one of their Garden View One Bedroom Residences with Plunge Pool. This residence featured all the modern comforts of home with the luxury of being at a resort on the beach.

At The Cape, a Thompson Hotel, guests can indulge in the authentic flavors of Cabo San Lucas through a variety of dining experiences that highlight the freshest local ingredients. Manta, led by renowned chef Enrique Olvera, offers a unique fusion of seafood and artistic expression from its dynamic exhibition-style kitchen. The Ledge provides a more casual dining option, featuring stunning, unobstructed views of the Sea of Cortez and El Arco. Each restaurant at The Cape embraces the beauty and spirit of Los Cabos, offering modern interpretations of regional cuisine in unforgettable settings.

Manta, designed by JSa Arquitectura and Enrique Olvera, is The Cape's culinary centerpiece, inspired by the elegance of the desert and the breathtaking views of Cabo San Lucas' secluded playas. The name "Manta" has a double meaning: it references the manta ray, symbolizing the restaurant's focus on seafood, and "manta," the Spanish word for canvas, reflecting the freedom of artistic expression. Under the guidance of Chef de Cuisine Abisai Sanchez, Manta celebrates the Pacific Coast cultures with a menu inspired by Mexico, Peru, Japan, and beyond, emphasizing local and sustainable ingredients from Baja while maintaining a relaxed and inviting atmosphere.

We didn’t dine here but we enjoyed bites inspired by Manta at Sunken Bar (see below).

The Ledge offers a delightful blend of modern Mexican and traditional American cuisine in a beach house-inspired setting. Located in Cabo San Lucas, this relaxed restaurant and patio serve up locally-sourced seafood, contemporary Mexican dishes, and American favorites. Enjoy breakfast, lunch, or dinner with breathtaking ocean views and iconic sights like El Arco. Be sure to try the famous Cape Toast or join for their lively Sunday brunch featuring food stations and live music.

This is where we enjoyed the Hyatt Privé breakfast each day. We’d recommend getting a craft coffee, juice or smoothie and the chilaquiles. This is one of our favorite breakfasts we’ve had in Mexico and look forward to it every time we stay at this resort.

The Rooftop at The Cape is one of the premier rooftop bars and lounges in Cabo San Lucas, offering stunning sunsets and sweeping views of downtown Cabo and El Arco. This signature space is ideal for a romantic evening, a night out with friends, or a private event. It features open-air bars, al fresco dining, sunken communal seating, a fire pit, and serene water features that capture the essence of Baja. Guests can enjoy live acoustic music as the sun sets and dance to DJs who perform regularly, making The Rooftop a vibrant destination for an unforgettable experience.

This is one of our favorite rooftops with a view of the sunset in Cabo. The views, the ambiance, the cocktails and the live music make this a must visit before dinner.

Thompson Dallas offers a diverse array of dining and bar experiences that cater to every taste. Catbird is a chic rooftop lounge serving craft cocktails and small plates with stunning city views. Little Daisy is a charming Franco-American bistro offering a delightful blend of French and American cuisine. Monarch, an Italian eatery, presents an elevated menu with a focus on fresh, seasonal ingredients. Finally, Kessaku is a sushi and sake lounge that delights with its exquisite selection of rolls and beverages. Each venue combines innovative cuisine and stylish ambiance, making Thompson Dallas a premier destination for food and drink.

During our stay we dined at Monarch on the 49th floor at the hotel. Our Monarch experience started by checking in on the ground-floor where we were poured a glass of Champagne for the elevator ride up to the restaurant. This was such a nice touch and a unique experience to welcome guests to their culinary journey.

Monarch is a wood-fired modern Italian restaurant imagined by two Michelin Star chefs, Danny Grant and team. Serving handmade pastas, steaks and fresh seafood, the overall approach to preparation is light, fresh and technique-driven. Celebrate with an upscale dining experience during your downtown Dallas stay. Monarch is independently managed by Maple Hospitality Group.

Since Thompson Hotels are known for having amazing rooftop bars, we can’t forget to mention our experience at Catbird. This highly designed jewel box restaurant and bar features an expansive rooftop terrace. Catbird makes for the perfect place for happy hour, dinner or late-night bites. They also have live music every Tuesday and Wednesday and a DJ on Friday and Saturday nights.

We found ourselves making a stop at Catbird before dinner. The happy hour menu features an array of craft cocktails, fine wines, and local brews, all expertly mixed and poured. Complementing the drinks are a selection of gourmet bites, from artisanal cheeses and charcuterie to creative small plates that highlight fresh, locally-sourced ingredients. With its stylish ambiance and elevated offerings, Catbird turns happy hour into a sophisticated and memorable occasion.

For breakfast we enjoyed dining at Little Daisy. This French-American bistro had us feeling as though we’d been transported to another country. The menu features a curated selection of classic French dishes, such as coq au vin and escargot, alongside American favorites with a sophisticated twist. The bistro’s inviting atmosphere, complete with elegant décor and a cozy ambiance, makes it perfect for both casual dining and special occasions. With its focus on fresh, locally-sourced ingredients and expertly crafted dishes, Little Daisy offers a unique and memorable dining experience that captures the essence of Dallas' vibrant culinary scene.

We did not have a chance to dine at Kessaku during our stay, which will give us a reason to go back to this crown jewel.

A: We find way to engage our guests through unique and local programming experiences whether it be through the 12 Days of Thompson, which we are known for, or other activations.  Examples would include Summer concert series, Night Brunch, Vinyl DJ in the lobby, or Mahjong Mondays.

Q: What makes your hotel different than other hotels in Dallas?

A: We are the largest preservation project in the state of Texas nestled within the heart of the central business district.  We have a two acre 9th floor pool deck, a luxurious spa with amenities like our hot and cold plunge pool experience.  Our rooms offer the best views and are amongst the largest in the city averaging over 425 sq. ft.  Beyond just our own distinctive product we also have several unique luxury specialty shops including Lucchese, Samuel Lynn Galleries, Botanical Mix, Tondeo Hair Lounge, and four unique food and beverage offerings in the building which include Little Daisy, Catbird, Monarch, and Kessaku restaurants.

We spent some of our time at Thompson Austin relaxing in their luxurious Thompson Suite. This exquisite suite features two bedrooms and three walls of floor-to-ceiling windows that offer breathtaking panoramic views of downtown Austin. The separate living room is designed for both relaxation and productivity, with a dining table, a seating area, and a spacious work desk. Unwind in the spa-like bathroom, complete with a rainfall shower, oversized robes, and luxurious D.S. & Durga bath amenities. Sleep soundly on plush beds with crisp linens. The residential feel of this bespoke suite provides the comfort and ambiance of local living, all while situated high above Austin's vibrant arts and entertainment district.

The Thompson Suite features a secondary bedroom and bathroom upon entering the suite on both sides of the hallway that leads into the living area. Past the living room is the primary bedroom and primary bathroom.

The living room of this suite was designed with entertaining in mind. The large leather sectional was the perfect place to lounge with friends, and the dining table was perfect for enjoying in-room dining.

We began our mornings at The Grey Market (now closed), where the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and an array of delectable pastries set the perfect tone for the day. For dinner, we enjoyed a memorable meal at The Diner Bar (now closed - new concept coming soon), featuring a menu crafted with local ingredients that celebrated Austin's rich culinary heritage. We also had the pleasure of dining at Arriba Abajo, where innovative dishes combined bold flavors and creative presentations, making each meal a unique delight.

Nestled on the 4th floor of Thompson Austin, Arriba Abajo is a rooftop oasis where vibrant flavors come to life against stunning panoramic views of downtown Austin. The relaxed ambiance invites you to indulge in dishes like sizzling fajitas and handcrafted tacos, each one telling a story of tradition, innovation, and exceptional quality. Our talented bartenders mix cocktails with the finesse of a rattlesnake's shake, perfectly complementing the laid-back vibe of this little slice of paradise. Whether you’re seeking warmth or coolness, unwind poolside in one of our cozy daybeds or cabanas, margarita in hand, and immerse yourself in the joy of the Mexican lifestyle.

Dining at Arriba Abajo for brunch is a delightful experience that captures the essence of leisurely weekends. We indulged in a perfect mid-morning feast, savoring delicious chilaquiles topped with fresh ingredients and bursting with flavor. The menu also featured enticing options like French toast dripping with horchata glaze, ensuring a culinary journey that blends classic favorites with innovative twists. Paired with refreshing margaritas, each sip added a festive touch to our meal. The rooftop setting, with its stunning views and charming ambiance, created the ideal backdrop for enjoying this flavorful brunch, making it a memorable highlight of our stay.

The other two food and beverage outlets are the signature lobby restaurant and all-day market/cafe with grab and go options. Both of these closed shortly after our stay as they were third-party operated and the hotel is in process of taking the daily operations in-house with two brand new concepts coming soon.

During our stay at Thompson San Antonio, we had the pleasure of experiencing the luxurious Thompson Suite. Located on the 10th floor, this expansive one-bedroom suite features an elegantly designed living area with contemporary furnishings, ideal for relaxation or entertaining guests. Floor-to-ceiling windows provide breathtaking panoramic views of the San Antonio skyline and Riverwalk, flooding the space with natural light. The luxurious marble bathroom includes a deep soaking tub, a rainfall shower, and high-end bath products, creating a spa-like retreat. The suite also features a private balcony, wardrobe, and a fully stocked minibar.

The Thompson Suite features an open-living concept with tall ceilings throughout the entire suite. Upon entering the suite, you first enter the living room, which flows past a small partition wall to the bedroom, then to the bathroom and out to the private balcony.

The living room and bar area of the suite was very intimate and almost felt like you were in someone's condo in the city.

In collaboration with Sferra Linens, Thompson Hotels guarantees an unmatched sleep experience for its guests. Celebrated for their superior quality and craftsmanship, Sferra Linens enhance the comfort and luxury of Thompson Hotel rooms, allowing guests to enjoy a night of restful sleep enveloped in exquisite softness.

The full bathroom was adjacent to the bedroom in the Thompson Suite. The bathroom featured a large over-size single vanity, deep soaking tub, large walk-in shower, and separate toilet room.

Thompson Hotels feature D.S. & Durga toiletries, offering guests a premium aromatic experience. Infused with high-quality ingredients and unique fragrances, these products elevate your daily routine into a luxurious indulgence, adding a sophisticated touch to your stay.

Adjacent to the bathroom and bedroom in our Thompson Suite was a beautiful wardrobe with sitting area, large full-length mirror and closets so you could unpack and stay a while. This made for the perfect place to get ready each day.

Cenote, the poolside dining option, offers delicious and refreshing fare in a stylish and casual atmosphere. Whether enjoying a light bite or a leisurely lunch by the water, Cenote provides the perfect backdrop for a delightful dining experience.

Each venue at Thompson San Antonio boasts its own unique ambiance, from the posh riverfront patio to the unapologetically stylish dining rooms, ensuring a memorable culinary adventure in every corner of the hotel.

At the heart of Thompson San Antonio lies Landrace, the hotel’s signature restaurant where the culinary artistry of James Beard Award finalist Steve McHugh shines through. Celebrating the pastoral beauty of regional Lone Star ingredients, Landrace sources from heritage growers to craft dishes that honor Texas' rich agricultural traditions.

The menu at Landrace evolves with the seasons, offering indulgent creations such as Hopi blue corn hushpuppies, woodfired lamb T-bones, and blackberry shrub pies topped with pine fluff. Guests can slip into a stylish banquette for an intimate dining experience, enjoy the ambiance of the patio overlooking the River Walk, or take a seat at the showstopping bar. Here, the semi-open kitchen provides a captivating view as chefs fire-grill an array of exquisite offerings, including wagyu beef, oysters, and Shishito peppers.

Landrace offers a dining experience that is both sophisticated and inviting, seamlessly blending the flavors of Texas with an atmosphere of refined comfort.

We dined at Landrace for breakfast and the fresh local ingredients shined through. We had a great time and the art in this restaurant is truly unique creating an inviting and comforting atmosphere.

The real star of Thompson San Antonio is The Moon’s Daughters located on the top floor of the hotel.

Whether you're savoring a meal under the open sky or mingling indoors with the city lights as your backdrop, The Moon's Daughters promises an unforgettable experience where every bite and every moment is infused with allure and charm.

Step into the exclusive world of The Moon's Daughters at Thompson San Antonio for a private dinner crafted to delight the senses and ignite the palate. Our evening began with an exquisite Amuse Bouche, a tantalizing preview of the culinary journey ahead.

Next, savor the Soup course - Corn in a Cup, a symphony of flavors featuring sweet corn, lime kewpie, Tajin dust, crunchy corn nuts, and crumbled Cojita cheese, perfectly balanced to evoke the essence of summer. Here is a picture before the liquid was added bringing the soup to life.

For the Starter, indulge in Texas Skies, a picturesque dish showcasing grilled quail, a crispy fried quail egg, velvety Swiss chard puree, delicate shave Brussels slaw, and a refreshing green apple vinaigrette, all crowned with a delicate kataifi pastry for a delightful textural contrast.

The Main course brings you the robust flavors of Backyard BBQ, featuring USDA prime brisket slow-cooked to perfection, served alongside Mexican rice, hearty Borracho beans, warm flour tortillas, and a fiery habanero salsa, capturing the essence of traditional Texas barbecue.

To conclude your epicurean journey, indulge in the decadent Choco Flan. This heavenly dessert combines the richness of flan with the caramel notes of Cajeta, drizzled with Mezcal chocolate sauce and a hint of Grand Marnier, garnished with fresh strawberries to provide a sweet and satisfying finale.

A: We are located in the Museum/Arts district, which is true to our brand DNA. We love that we are on the River Walk but on the quiet and less traffic area of downtown. Our hotel is walking distance from hidden gem restaurants, The Pearl, and The Pullman Market.

A: We are collaborating with LSPACE, the quintessential California beach lifestyle brand that believes the perfect fit is everything, out on our Cenote Pool Deck for the summer. Overall Impression

Our stay at Thompson San Antonio began with private check-in at the taste-makers desk where we were greeted by the head chef preparing a delicious welcome drink. Our stay was filled with unparalleled skyline views, sophisticated accommodations, and vibrant dining options.

Our first evening in San Antonio, we took a scenic River Cruise that the hotel set up for us. The scenic river cruises take about an hour and give guests the ability to BYOB (Bring Your Own Beverage).

As the boat glided smoothly along the San Antonio River, our guide began sharing captivating tales of the city's past, weaving together its rich history and modern-day charm.

Passing under picturesque bridges and alongside charming riverside cafes, we marveled at the architectural wonders that lined the riverbanks. Each building seemed to whisper stories of San Antonio's cultural tapestry, from Spanish colonial influences to contemporary architectural feats.

During our stay at Thompson Savannah, we had the pleasure of experiencing the luxurious Thompson Suite. Located on the top floor, this spacious one-bedroom accommodation offered breathtaking views of the Savannah River. The suite featured a king bed, separate living and dining areas, a wet bar, and even a pool table for entertaining. The suite even has a kitchenette which would be perfect for preparing snacks to share when hosting a small gathering. After a delightful evening, the rainfall shower and separate soaking tub provided a refreshing end to the day. The suite's elegant design and thoughtful amenities made for an unforgettable stay.

As mentioned, the bedroom featured a King size bed with stunning river views. The separate living room felt very residential providing the perfect home away from home. The living room has bar seating, an area to watch tv, a dining table, pool table and half bath.

The living room felt like a well-appointed apartment, giving us plenty of space to spread out, work from the dining room table, bar or sofa.

We dined at Fleeting our first night of our stay at their Chef's Counter and talk about a culinary delight. Our experience will go down as one to remember as each dish was so beautifully presented and full of amazing flavor.

Breakfast on the rooftop was a highlight as it allowed us to have a leisurely morning while soaking in the magnificent river views and taking in all of Savannah from a birds-eye view.

And last but not least, one of the most important things we look for when traveling is a local coffee shop.

Stevedore Bakery, nestled on the ground floor just around the corner from the lobby entrance, beckons guests with its enticing aroma of freshly baked goods. Here, artisanal grains and ingredients take center stage, celebrating the flavors of the region with mouth-watering dishes crafted from locally sourced Southern farmers and growers. Partnering with local favorites like PERC Coffee, Stevedore Bakery has quickly become an iconic neighborhood staple, offering guests a delightful morning stop along the picturesque Savannah riverfront.

While the hotel is located in a newly developing area of Savannah that has plenty to offer, most people visit Savannah to experience River Street and the Historic District. You won't have any problem getting there as Thompson Savannah has a house-car service that will take you to your destination and you'll arrive in style in their Tesla Model X. Their house courtesy car is first-come-first-serve, but let us be the first to tell you we used it some to get around and it was quite convenient.

Q: How does culture live here at Thompson Washington DC?

A: It starts with us! As individuals and as a team we are immersed in the local community. Connecting with local business, schools, and residents has allowed us to identify where and how we can impact the culture of our community. We discovered that the neighborhood would benefit from a space that creates a platform for the community to present their passions and talents. We host weekly jazz performances by a local musician, we do a seasonal plant and vintage book/record sale from local vendors, and have had conversations recently with a local school in regards to how we can feature the student's art in the building to name a few. Culture Lives Here because we focus on breathing life and adding color to the neighborhood by creating a space for the community.

Q: What makes your hotel different than other hotels in Washington DC?

A: I would be remised if I didn't start with my team. Every day I get to work with people who are truly passionate about going above and beyond for our guests. We pride ourselves on being hospitable not just because it our job, but because that who we are as people. We provide a luxury experience that is approachable and inclusive. We work diligently to foster an environment that allows people to be their authentic self in a luxury environment

A: What makes us stand out for me amongst other luxury product is what the Thompson Brand does for the senses. The music is lively, the scent is intoxicating, the design is stimulating. The "feel" is truly unique.

Q: What makes the location of your hotel unique and what do you love about the location and neighborhood?

A: Even for me, when I envision Washington DC, I think government buildings, museums, monuments etc. Our hotel is certainly adjacent to those amenities, however what makes us unique is our proximity to the waterfront. The Anacostia River and Park system is just outside of our front doors and truly a gem from an entertainment, recreational, and wellness perspective. I often find guests both starting and ending their days with a peaceful walk along the river.

Overall Impression

Our recent stay at Thompson Washington DC was truly exceptional. The hotel masterfully blends modern sophistication with mid-century modern charm, offering stunning views of the Navy Yards neighborhood from its elegant rooms. The Thompson Suite provided a luxurious retreat with its expansive layout and private balcony. The fitness center was impressive, featuring state-of-the-art equipment and Peloton Bikes and a Peloton Row, thanks to Hyatt's recent partnership with Peloton. The vibrant social scene at the rooftop bar, with 360-degree views of Washington D.C. and the waterfront, was the perfect way to unwind.

These elegantly appointed spaces boast designer furnishings, adorned with mid-century modern fabrics and textures, complemented by the warmth of hardwood floors.

Thompson Hotels partners with Sferra Linens to provide guests with an unparalleled sleep experience. During our stay, we were in one of their Panoramic Suites. This expansive retreat includes one king bed, a separate bedroom, a living and entertaining area, and a stylish bathroom with a bathtub and walk-in shower.

The custom ensuite bathrooms provide a sanctuary of indulgence, featuring serene stone walls, opulent champagne fixtures, and rejuvenating spa showers.

And there is a great vanity to do hair, make-up or your favorite skin-care routine. There was even a Dyson Hair Dryer.

Each room is outfitted with an array of high-end amenities, including honor bars stocked with local delicacies, sumptuous Sferra linens, Tivoli sound systems, and exquisite vanity stations.

Food & Beverage

Sol 7 beckons as an elevated oasis, where global flavors and contemporary cuisine converge in a light-filled, upscale setting. Whether it's brunch, breakfast, lunch, dinner, or cocktails, this vibrant locale invites both locals and travelers to gather and indulge. Nestled amidst lush greenery, its retro-inspired ambiance provides a buzzing backdrop against the stunning panorama of the Houston Skyline.

There are more restaurants and bars in the works including Maven Coffee Co., Toca Madera, Chardon, and Meduza Mediterrania (all of which weren't quite open yet during our stay).

During our stay we did dine at Sol7 for lunch which had really good salad, sandwiches and burgers. They even have homemade chicken strips which were quite good.

Looking for a luxurious place to stay that’s off the beaten path? You’ve found it at Thompson Zihuatanejo, Beach Resort. Thompson Zihuatanejo is located on Playa La Ropa, the premier swimming beach of Mexico’s Pacific Coast. And this refined luxury beach resort is not your typical Zihuatanejo-Ixtapa hotel or resort experience. In fact, this boutique property will make you never want to stay at a large resort ever again.

Our Room

Now to the good part! During our stay at Thompson Zihuatanejo we stayed in a 2 Bedroom Beach Suite. And are you ready for the best part….you can walk out the door of your room, take 10 steps across the patio and be walking on the beach. Our Beach Suite made for the perfect place to really enjoy all that Playa La Ropa has to offer.

The Beach Suites have incredible indoor and outdoor living spaces, a small plunge pool, and the best part is you are so close to the beach and to the relaxing sound of crashing waves.

While we stayed in a 2 Bedroom Beach Suite, it is worth noting that all of the rooms and suites at Thompson Zihuatanejo come standard with the following amenities: custom Egyptian cotton bedding, cotton kimono bathrobes, slippers & beach towels, Thompson DS & Durga luxury soaps & shampoos, rain showers, gourmet mini bar, bluetooth speakers, in-room safe and flat-screen TVs.

Thompson Hotels & Resorts are known for their mid-century styling and that is no different at Thompson Zihuatanejo. The accommodations feature touches of parota woods, brass details, Mexican artworks and Oaxacan clay light fixtures, which all come together to create the perfect balance of old-world and new in the 56 guestrooms and suites.

Our 2 Bedroom Beach Suite had 2 bedrooms, each with their own living area and bathroom, making for the perfect place for a friends getaway. The rooms are separated by a large sliding wood door that could be left open to make a bigger space to spend time together or closed to offer privacy.

Each bathroom in our suite had an oversized vanity and shower and featured a sperate water closet.

Amenities

While beach vacations look different for almost everyone, one thing to note is that Thompson Zihuatanejo sits on Playa La Ropa Beach, one of Mexico’s most swimmable beaches. As you may have read some of our other hotel reviews such as Viceroy Los Cabos, The Cape - A Thompson Hotel or Solaz Los Cabos, none of these resorts sit on beaches that you can actually enjoy swimming.

As mentioned earlier, the spa at Thompson Zihuatanejo is currently being renovated which means they have a temporary spa setup in a couple of suites near Ceniza (the fine dining restaurant) and the family pool. The intimate makeshift spa is quite nice. During our stay we enjoyed massages and could hear the sound of waves crashing which made for a relaxing experience.

One of the therapists we spoke to at the spa has been with the property for over 18 years. And if you know anything about spas, this makes for fantastic treatments. People who have been with a property for a long time come to know the guests who come back year after year and are very good at what they do.

During our experience at the spa, it’s safe to say that the spa staff was taking COVID very seriously and offered us hand sanitizer before our massages and the therapists wore a facial covering during the duration of the massage.

Whether or not you like to exercise while on vacation is up to you, but Thompson Zihuatanejo has a great air-conditioned gym. The gym did require that we had reservations each day to limit the number of guests trying to utilize the gym at the same time and so they could clean in between guests. We have stayed at other resorts who have been doing this during COVID and can really appreciate them providing a safe place for guests to enjoy working out. The gym has an elliptical, a Peloton bike, dumbbells, and a couple of cable machines.

If you like to run, the beach makes for a great place to get those miles in. And if you like to do yoga, there are lots of outdoor areas to find peace and serenity.

Dining

Under the direction of Executive Chef Miguel Baltazar, Thompson Zihuatanejo’s two restaurants Ceniza (wood-fired cuisine with a menu crafted daily from fresh local ingredients) and Hao (Zihuatanejo bar featuring all-day-menu and seasonal cocktails) make for the perfect place to indulge your palette.

During our stay breakfast was served on the weekends at Hao and during the week at Ceniza. Even while at Ceniza, the breakfast menu remains the same breakfast menu from Hao.

Since we stayed for a week, we definitely got to try several items from the breakfast menu including Chilaquiles, Rancho Troncones, Zihua Benedicts, Surf Champion’s Breakfast, and Steak & Eggs. And the longer we stayed the decision didn’t become any easier, all of the items we tried for breakfast were delicious. A couple things we really enjoyed about the Privé breakfast that was included was that it comes with coffee, choice of fresh juice, a fruit bowl, fresh baked pastries and your choice of entree.

And another thing that makes Thompson Zihuatanejo special is that each morning around 7:20 am, a basket of traditional Spanish pastries and a freshly brewed pot of coffee would show up outside the door to our room. This made for very relaxing and indulgent mornings.

On Saturday nights, the resort does a taco experience and let’s taco-bout how incredible it was. Taco night consisted of lobster, octopus, pork pibil and short rib authentic tacos which are served with handmade rolled tortillas on the beach. We can tell you from first hand experience, the whole meal is incredible. And to finish off your meal, it includes fresh made churros or cookies & cream tacos for dessert.

If you love trying new food, you’re going to want to sign-up for a cooking experience with Chef Miguel. We opted to do the cooking class one afternoon of our stay and made it into an early dinner.

The cooking experience usually starts with going into Zihuatanejo to the market to pick out the freshest ingredients and fish. Due to COVID, we weren’t able to go into town and go to the fish market, but chef did that part for us. So our cooking class began on the beach with this amazing market setup for us to select fresh ingredients from.

The menu for your cooking experience can be tailored to accommodate food allergies and sensitivities as it was for our group.

Welcome to Brandon’s Fish Market where Chef brought to us fish caught just hours before. For our experience we prepared citrus salt that was used in all of the following dishes we made: Trendy Guacamole, Tiritas Ceviche, Tuna Tiradito, Grilled Catch of the Day and Papaya Quinoa Salad.

Holy guacamole was never so fitting. One person in our group didn’t like guacamole and after trying this guacamole, that changed.

This hands on culinary experience was by far our favorite thing we did on the trip. Chef guides you through each recipe and leaves it up to you to be creative and to use your own technique.

We’re not sure which dish we made was the best because it all paired so well together to create flavors of sweet, salty, bitter, sour and umami.

Service

Be prepared to be treated like family when you stay at Thompson Zihuatanejo. This boutique resort feels very intimate and the service matches that. The staff is very attentive to your every whim and truly gets to know you throughout your stay.

How are they handling COVID?

While traveling looks much different in 2020, we felt extremely safe and healthy at Thompson Zihuatanejo. The resort was following all of Hyatt’s Global Care and Cleanliness Commitment.

Thompson Zihuatanejo is adhering to all state and local government regulations. All employees were wearing masks, there were hand sanitizer dispensers all over the resort and the staff was there to give gentle reminders to wear a facial covering.

And one of the biggest reasons we felt safe here was because of the size of the resort. With government regulations only allowing for 30-40% occupancy during our stay the resort was very quiet and not very crowded which made for a safe and enjoyable getaway.

And also to let you know how serious Thompson Zihuatanejo was taking COVID, upon arrival and exiting of the resort you had to have your temperature taken.

Overall Impression

Zihuatanejo might be off the beaten path and at times a little challenging to get to with flight schedules, but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth the trip. The Thompson Zihuatanejo is a hidden gem. This luxury resort is the perfect spot for a family getaway, couples getaway, honeymoon, or a friends trip.

From the accommodations to the food to the staff, our entire experience at Thompson Zihuatanejo was nothing short of perfecto.

The Thompson Nashville is rather new to the city. The hotel first opened their doors in 2017 . While the Thompson Nashville isn’t considered a boutique hotel since it has 224 rooms and suites spread out over 12 floors, it still feels very intimate, warm and cozy. And the location in the Gulch is the perfect escape from Broadway where it’s 24/7 hustle and bustle.

The Thompson Nashville offers luxurious accommodations and great food and beverage outlets including Killebrew Coffee, L.A. Jackson and Marsh House.

If you are looking for top notch accommodations in the Music City, then the Thompson Nashville is exactly what you are looking for. This industrial modern hotel is the perfect place to kick up your feet after a day of exploring this southern city or a night out on the town.

Our Room

During our stay at the Thompson Nashville, we were upgraded to an executive suite due to low occupancy rates during our stay. Even though we had a suite for our stay, it is worth noting that all of the rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows, warm wooden floors, wallpaper from Flat Vernacular, as well as custom-designed rugs from a one-off collaboration between Tailor Made Textiles and Eskayel.

As soon as we opened the door of our suite, we were greeted by elegant touches that mix Nashville heritage with modern design. The rooms are very balanced with tons of natural light, texture and high quality finishes.

The executive suite is a true one bedroom suite that offers a bedroom equipped with a door and a separate sitting area. The executive suite has a shared wall between the sitting area and bedroom that features a breezeway (almost like a double-sided fireplace without the fire) that can be closed off via a sliding door. This was a nice touch because it allows the sitting area and bedroom to be connected or disconnected from one another.

The bathroom in our room was absolutely gorgeous. One entire wall of the bathroom featured white subway tile from floor to ceiling, which makes a bold statement. And the hand painted tile on the floor was a nice unique touch that one can appreciate. The bathroom featured a big cast iron free standing tub, a double vanity, large walk in shower and separate water closet.

Amenities

While the Thompson Nashville doesn’t have a pool, they make up for it in many other ways. One of our favorite things about this property is the rooftop bar and restaurant, L.A. Jackson, which offers sweeping views of the city.

The Thompson Nashville has an on-site 24 hour fitness center that is located on the second floor. The fitness center isn’t the biggest hotel gym we have seen considering the number of rooms, but it has enough cardio and weight equipment to get a good workout in. The gym features 3 ellipticals, 3 treadmills, 2 Peloton bikes, free weights and a couple of weight machines.

Dining

Be prepared to eat some delicious food during your stay at the Thompson Nashville. There are 3 food and beverage outlets on-property including Killebrew Coffee (delicious coffee & pastries), Marsh House (signature restaurant that focuses on sustainably sourced seafood & southern-fused cuisines), and L.A. Jackson (indoor-outdoor rooftop bar & restaurant that serves up custom craft cocktails and small plates).

During our stay we flocked to where the locals hangout on our first night to try out L.A. Jackson. And we would definitely recommend you give it a try. The views combined with the custom craft cocktails, frosé and beer selection make this the perfect spot to grab a few drinks and some food. Do yourself a favor and try their signature frosé and burger!

Unfortunately during our stay, Marsh House was closed so we didn’t get to try the food, but we did get to peek at the space and get a feel for the ambience.

And lastly if you’re a coffee snob, you will love Killebrew, not to mention that you don’t even have to leave the hotel to grab that perfect cup of coffee! And if you’re looking for something quick and good for breakfast try their breakfast sandwich.

If you’re like us, sometimes you don’t want to leave your room to get food, and that is just fine since there is also the option of ordering room service. Since there is no restaurant to get breakfast at in the hotel, we ordered room service breakfast on our second morning.

We placed our breakfast order the night before and it arrived right on time just as we had arranged for. You would be surprised how many hotels can’t get room service breakfast right or forget to bring half of what you order.

Service

From the moment we pulled up at valet to the moment we stepped foot in the hotel, we were greeted by friendly, knowledgeable and helpful staff. Not sure if it’s just a southern hospitality thing or if the employees at the Thompson Nashville really like their job, but everyone was so friendly.

When staying at a 5-star property you expect a high-level of service and that is exactly what you will find at the Thompson Nashville.

How are they handling COVID?

How are hotels handling COVID? This is a big question on every travelers mind right now including ours. The Thompson Nashville isn’t operating as normal, but at a new normal.

The most important thing to note is the Thompson Nashville is adhering to all state and local government regulations and Hyatt’s Global Care & Cleanliness Commitment. All employees were wearing masks, there were hand sanitizer dispensers in the lobby and there was signage and markings on the floor in all common areas to encourage social distancing.

There were plexiglass partitions up at the front desk to protect guests and staff during the check-in process. And if you’re like us we used the mobile check-in option in the World of Hyatt app to minimize contact necessary during check-in.

The first night of our stay when we went to L.A. Jackson for drinks and dinner, there was a 15 minute wait to get a table. They took our phone number and texted us when our table was ready. In addition to being required to wear a facial covering when walking to and from your table, the host was also taking patrons temperatures with a touchless thermometer to ensure everyone’s health and safety.

Overall Impression

If you’re looking for luxurious accommodations in Music City in a well sought out neighborhood away from the main attractions of the city then look no further than the Thompson Nashville. This boutique hotel makes for a great home base to explore the city and a serene escape when you return for the night.

The Cape, a Thompson Hotel Review

Our Verdict

If you are looking for a luxurious yet fun getaway to Mexico, then The Cape, a Thompson Hotel, is exactly what you are looking for. This Industrial Modern resort was designed by the famous Mexican architect Javier Sanchez. The goal behind the design of the resort was to offer the most incredible views on the peninsula.

If we had to sum up our stay at The Cape in a few words, it would be an incredible resort with a unique design, amazing staff and incredible views.

This review is an honest review and we aren’t being paid or told what to say.

The Cape, a Thompson Hotel

The Cape, a Thompson Hotel is rather new compared to other resorts in Cabo, as The Cape opened their doors in June of 2015. And the resort is quite compact and intimate with only 161 guest rooms. To be honest, there isn’t a bad view from this resort. All 161 guest rooms have incredible ocean views from their private balconies along with a freestanding copper tub and rain shower.

The whole experience of this 5-star resort, from the staff to the food to the accommodations and the amenities, it won’t disappoint.

OUR ROOM

During our stay at The Cape, we stayed in a Thompson Suite. The suite had incredible ocean views and a great view of the arch.

The room had a great entry way that led into the living area complete with powder bath, sofa and small dining table. The bedroom, bathroom and closet could be separated from the living area by closing the shuttered doors.

Let’s talk about the attention to detail in these rooms! The artwork on the wall, the hand-painted tiles on the floor, the wood on the ceiling in the bathroom, the fixtures, the mirrors, and the lighting all work so nicely together. The exterior of the hotel is very industrial looking with lots of concrete and metal, so it is definitely nice to feel a warmer tone in the rooms.

The freestanding copper tub and rain shower equipped with 3 shower heads was awesome. Definitely a great place to relax and clean up after a day at the pool and beach.

DINING

It is always hard to decide where to eat when visiting a resort. Do you eat every meal at the resort, do you visit other resorts or do you get really adventurous and venture into town. We never felt the need to leave the resort as there are plenty of dining options. Even though the resort is rather compact, don’t let that make you think there isn’t a variety of food options.

The Cape features five restaurants on the property. There is Manta (Chef Enrique Olvera’s restaurant) which features globally inspired Mexican cuisine only offered at dinner. There is also The Ledge which is a casual dining option for breakfast, lunch and dinner. In addition there is The Rooftop which is the best place to go for drinks and lite bites in the evening. The pool offers Point Break which only has a few tables but can be a nice place to grab lunch and a drink. And last but not least is Lobby Bar which not only offers incredible cocktails but a great bar food menu as well.

During our stay we enjoyed breakfast each day at The Ledge. We booked our stay under the Hyatt Privé rate and had breakfast included each day. The Ledge offers a cold breakfast bar with fruit, yogurt, cereal, pastries, meats, cheeses and juice as well as a full menu. And if you are looking for a special treat, they have brunch on Sundays with an expanded buffet offering the normal cold buffet in addition to ceviche, seafood, a taco bar, and so much more.

Perhaps once of the best dining experiences we have ever had at a resort was at Manta. We saved the best for last as we ate here on our last night at the resort. Not only was Manta a great place to sit outside on the patio with a drink and watch the sunset, but it offered an amazing meal. The waitstaff all wears black in order to not take away from the incredible views.

As a starter we had Wagyu yakitori with roasted pineapple purée. This was a fun starter as they bring out the beef and a yakitori where you can cook the meat yourself over a small flame table-side.

For dinner we selected the Organic Fried Chicken and the Lobster Gringas. If you know anything about Gringas tacos, they are delicious. The Lobster Gringas were no exception to that!

AMENITIES

When in Mexico you are probably looking to spend time at the pool or on the beach. And that is exactly what you can do at The Cape. The Cape features two pools, a main pool with swim-up bar, and a salt water pool with drink service.

The main infinity edge pool overlooks the beach and offers the same great view you have from your room. The staff at the pool were very helpful with finding chairs, getting your towels setup and of course taking orders for food and drinks.

Currents Spa is located just past The Ledge Restaurant on the ground level at one end of the resort for guests relaxation and privacy. Currents Spa will do one thing and that is enhance your senses.

The walls inside the spa are made of concrete and are painted black. You can see light at the end of the hallway as the spa is open air and when you get to the end of the hall, the views of the beach and the arch are incredible mainly because your eyes aren’t as distracted.

Currents Spa has several treatment rooms, and one treatment room equipped with indoor jacuzzi and shower.

Unlike most spas the facilities such as the spa pool, jaccuzi, plunge pool, steam room and sauna all outside in a co-ed area.

SERVICE

A great resort is nothing more than a place to be without excellent service. All of the staff we encountered at The Cape were friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and truly made you feel like you were at home.

Upon arriving at The Cape we were promptly greeted, assisted with check-in and escorted to our room. Everyone from the bell staff to the front desk to the restaurant staff were so warm and welcoming. When you are looking to relax on a weekend getaway, the service can either make or break your stay.

OVERALL IMPRESSION

This was our first time to Mexico, but it wasn’t our first time to stay at a Thompson Hotel. You can see our review for the Thompson Seattle here.

The Cape should be on your list of places to visit. It makes a perfect weekend getaway for both families or a romantic couples retreat.

Its hard to have a luxury resort that caters to both families and adult getaways, but the Cape has the perfect space for both.

Thompson Seattle Review

Whether you are looking for an awesome hotel for a weekend in Seattle or are just visiting for one night, The Thompson Seattle is an excellent choice. Located right by Pike’s Place Market, this swanky hotel is very modern and makes you feel right at home.

THOMPSON SEATTLE

The 158 room, twelve story boutique hotel which opened in the summer of 2016 features floor to ceiling windows with incredible views of Pike's Place Market and the waterfront. The first floor of the hotel is home to restaurant Scout PNW and the hotel has a rooftop bar and lounge, the Nest.

The Thompson Seattle is one of the best located hotels in Seattle. Centrally located next to the historic waterfront quarter of Downtown Seattle, the hotel is a short walk from Pike's Place Market. The Thompson Seattle is located within close proximity to excellent Downtown Seattle shopping, restaurants and the monorail which connects downtown to the Seattle Space Needle.

The package we booked included a room upgrade, free breakfast at Scout PNW, two cocktails at the Nest and one-way transportation from the airport. When we arrived at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport just before noon on Saturday, our driver was waiting for us. It's about a twenty minute drive from the airport to the Thompson Seattle.

When we arrived at the hotel, the modern was modern, yet elegant and inviting. We were told our room would be ready within thirty minutes so we took the opportunity to grab a quick breakfast at Biscuit Bitch, located directly across from the Thompson Seattle (it's worth the wait - trust us).

THE ROOM

After breakfast when we arrived in our room and we were pleasantly surprised to see that we had been upgraded to a corner suite. The room had an incredible view of of Pike's Place Market and the waterfront (even through the low clouds).

The suite was warm, yet modern and featured two separate rooms, a bedroom and living room. The room also had two full bathrooms.

The living room had several chairs, a comfortable couch, coffee table, flat screen television and minibar.

The bedroom had an extremely comfortable king size bed with two night stands. For the proximity to a busy area of Downtown Seattle, we didn't notice an excessive amount of street noise which definitely made for a good night of sleep.

Both bathrooms had that industrial modern look with a vanity, walk-in shower and toilet. The bathrooms were quite functional however felt a bit sterile and cold compared to the rest of the room. But the design was still aesthetically pleasing.

Thompson Hotels including the Thompson Seattle have a special line of toiletries curated from D.S. Durga. The toiletries were top notch. They did have a slightly more masculine scent than most hotel toiletries (matching the feel of Thompson Hotels).

DINING

One of the best features of the Thompson Seattle is the NEST, a rooftop bar and lounge.The NEST boasts itself as the highest rooftop bar and lounge in Seattle. We did enjoy a late night cocktail at the NEST.  The drink was great and the views are outstanding. The space is on the smaller side and about half of the rooftop bar and lounge is dedicated to an outdoor patio which is unusable a good chunk of the year.

The next morning we went down to PNW Scout for breakfast. Breakfast was the only meal we had at PNW Scout but it was honestly less than stellar. For a five star hotel, the on site restaurant left a little to be desired. Service was fairly slow, our meals weren't great and the bacon that was served with both of our entrees looked like it came from a truck stop and should have never been served at a restaurant of this caliber. After we said something about the bacon, they brought us out another order of bacon which wasn't much better. The manager, who was chatting with a guest right next to our table, noticed the bacon and the replacement order of bacon yet never once bothered to check on us. We were definitely disappointed in the breakfast and service.

AMENITIES

While we didn't get a chance to try it out, the Thompson Seattle does have a gorgeous, state of the art fitness center that is open 24 hours a day. The fitness center has floor to ceiling windows overlooking 1st Avenue. There is no pool or hot tub at the Thompson Seattle.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Other than breakfast, we enjoyed our stay at the Thompson Hotel. The location of the hotel is perfect and the room and bathroom couldn't have been better. The hotel service was also what you would expect from an upper end hotel. And as great as the rooftop bar was in November, it's likely incredible on a sunny day in the summer.
